Architectural Designer

Location: Bethesda, MD

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Entry Level

EYA is growing its in-house architectural capability and is seeking a talented Architectural Designer to join our team. Reporting directly to the SVP of Planning & Design, this is a pure design role focused entirely on the vertical side of our projects.

This is a rare opportunity for a designer who wants to design. This role gives you real creative ownership from day one where you will work closely alongside the SVP of Planning & Design, shaping the look and feel of residential communities across the DMV - from blank-page concept through design development. If you've ever wanted to cross to the developer side of the table and see your design decisions come to life in built communities, this is that opportunity.

If you're the kind of person who gets excited about a blank piece of paper and wants to be part of the full lifecycle of a community where you get to contribute to real design challenges on active projects – we want to receive your application!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual architectural designs - floor plans, and exterior design for residential and mixed-use communities.
  • Create design development drawings and advance projects from early concept through construction documentation.
  • Produce 2D and 3D renderings, including photorealistic and SketchUp-based visuals, to communicate design intent.
  • Collaborate directly with the SVP of Planning & Design and cross-functional teams (pre-construction, purchasing, construction) to align on design decisions and material specifications early in the process.
  • Support the team's design tracking and specification workflows to improve coordination across departments.
  • Contribute to efforts to develop and document portfolio prototypes and standard product in 3D.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or equivalent design degree.  Master degree may not be necessary and conflicts with the next bullet
  • 2–5+ years of experience in architectural design, new construction experience preferred. Strong candidates with relevant internship experience and a graduate degree will also be considered.
  • Experience with residential building types including townhomes, multifamily, or housing communities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strong 3D modeling and rendering skills.
  • Hand sketching and drafting ability is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a hands-on, collaborative environment - someone who is curious, engaged, and eager to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Portfolio required — please submit with your application. We want to see your design thinking, aesthetic sensibility, and previous relevant work.
